An imaginary client asks us if they can register LA RIBERA as a trademark in order to designate bakery and patisserie products of class 30 nomenclature. The client completes the Agent Authorisation document and we undertake the search for precedents, detecting the
presence of an earlier trademark called LA RIBEREÑA, very similar in name to the one our client seeks to register, but registered in class 20 to designate office furniture.  With there being no risk of confusion, we present the application for registration and thereby obtain priority. After four months it is published and within the public information period of two months the prior office furniture trademark LA RIBEREÑA opposes the registration, upon which the proceedings are suspended with a hearing for the interested parties.
We advise the client to continue with the proceedings and the recommendation is accepted.  We present our statements to the hearing and the trademark is granted, and we therefore do not need to appeal.  We pay for the certificate and the two five-year payments.
Our client decides to franchise his business and our legal department draws up a franchise contract for him.  He also decides to register his trademark in Argentina, Chile, Mexico and France, and therefore prior to the expiry of the six months international priority we proceed with registration in these countries, making use of our local correspondents for this purpose.
