Can I protect my patent in other countries?
Yes, by means of the PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) administered by the World Industrial Property Organisation (OMPI). It consists of a multilateral treaty which permits you to increase the worldwide priority term to 30 months from the presentation of the patent. In addition, you can obtain a report on the status of the technique relating to your patent on a worldwide scale, in other words, of patents which are the same as or similar to yours. To benefit from these conditions you must invoke the PCT within the 12 months of worldwide priority.
